Working Class Parenting: Motivation, Education and Inspiration For Parents

Just a thought. I often wonder what a child would be like that was saturated with love, support and encouragement. Every area of their lives met based on their developmental stage. Cuddling in the infant years to eye-to-eye communication through the tough and uncertain teen years. What would this child be like? Would he/she be considered a prodigy? A individual before their time? A leader?  A anthropologist? The future of our evolving society does not lay so much in the technological advancement we make, but by the bedtime stories told and the badging of a wounded knees, and shoulders to lean on. The qualities of life are not derived by what we can obtain, but rather by what we can give, a settle smile, a warm hug and the assurance that we am here.

Sometimes as parents we face uncertainties that shake us and leave us weak and numb. Rest assure that God has made a way and made provisions for your sound mind. Reach out to Him in those moments and rest in His peace. 2 Timothy 1:7 ~ for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.   I remember the first time I met my wife, I had reluctantly visited a new youth group. To my surprise, upon my first visit their were only two people in the youth room. I was about half hour early and two individuals were my “now” wife and her best friend. They were practicing a song they would be singing in the main service. It took all of 10 to 15 minutes of looking and hearing her for me to decide that this was the girl I wanted to marry. Of course she didn’t even know I existed, but I would work on that. The area we lived in didn’t have much for teenagers to do, however it did have an ole’ school roller skating rink. This was our towns teenage mecca. Sure enough our first outing as a group and my first outing with my “now” wife was the roller rink. This would ultimately be where we would hang out the most, where I would eventually give her a “love” note shouting my love for her and the place where we would publicly hold hands for the first time. It is with much regret that we write this post, as our community has suffered the loss of a 12 year old boy, Miguel Rodriguez. Unfortunately the incident that took his life was not his health or a vehicle accident. The tragedy of this story is a too familiar trend that is on the rise and one of which could have been prevented. See this 12 year hung himself due to school bullying. The excessive day-in and day-out stress and uncertainties of school robbed him of his joy to live and in the end it’s said he wrote “No body loves me and I have nothing to live for”. Our hearts break for his family, moreover; for a trend that is taking the lives of young children before they have even began to live.

Today's Theme: Love and Discipline I read a good article this morning by Shana Schuttle, called The Wonders of Reality Discipline (She starts off writing about lipstick, but guys keep reading, it gets better.) Reality Discipline is based on the writing of child-psychologist Dr. Kevin Leman's article, "First things first", in which he says "..discipline your children in such a way that he/she accepts responsibility and learns accountability for his actions." It was the plans of Working Class Parenting to interview this family of 8 kids (with one on the way) when the time came. They are an example of a family working together and keeping family unity despite hard times. However our scheduled story on the Palma family has been moved up sooner due to a story just released about their families home. Imagine being told your family is living in a death trap. That is exactly what happened to the Palma family. An electrical fire in their breaker box discovered a danger that this family was not ready to hear...your house could catch on fire at any moment due to an inefficient electrical system. Due to the situation, they have been forced to move. They MUST find safe housing and need our help!! Dad is able to provide for their daily necessities, but due to a large salary cut because of the economy, they were unable to replace their old mobile home. It is now beyond repair and a hazard to them to live there. The mom stays home and homeschools...
