School options-What's best for your family?
I was at a family get together a while back and was talking to a family member who informed me that she had just enrolled her son into a private Montessori school for pre-kindergarten. As I looked around the pool it hit me that none of these kids go to a traditional public school.
There was a total of four families (including mine) with a total of six children ranging in age from 3 to 14 years old and here is the break down:
2- Home Schooled
2- Private Christian school
1- Charter Montessori school
1- Private Montessori school
(Note: In future blog posts I will interview each family, including my own, and find out the reasons why they chose these schools)
But here is the real kicker, all the parents went to and graduated from traditional public schools. Now, we are all working class families struggling with bills and mortgages so our financial situation is not that much different than it was for our parents. But with scholarships to private schools and publicly funded charter schools, the options are now greater than with just the schools that are close to the house.
Education is one of our five parenting principles here at Working Class Parenting. If you want to know more about your school choice options a good resource is education.com. There is a list of many different choices with a description of each type.
I know the school year just started, so this is a good time to become aware if you feel that your child is not in the right school this year and that there are other options you can explore for the future.
Education is changing in the USA and we as parents need to be informed to make the best choice for our children. Early education is the base of a lifetime of learning!
What type of school do your children attend and why did you choose it?
